Due to a reduction in funding for the arts nationwide, it is unfortunate that we currently have to suspend our Blues music celebration, BAYOU BLUES REVIVAL
Bayou Blues Revival began in an effort to bring more diverse local music to the community. While Cajun and Creole music is very popular and readily available in our area, we wanted to branch out into the culture and find other roots music that has been popular but under-represented in our area. Baton Rouge has been home to many thriving Blues Bands and Blues fans, and Crowley, Louisiana was home to Excello Records, a highly-esteemed Blues and Swamp Pop record label in the 50’s and 60’s that recorded local artists including Slim Harpo, Lightnin’ Slim, Lazy Lester, Carol Fran, Katie Webster and Warren Storm.
The annual Bayou Blues Revival will take place at NuNu in Arnaudville, LA, on Saturday May 26, 2012, from 2:00 – 10:00pm. The day’s activities will include a mid-afternoon workshop, and evening performances that will showcase Louisiana Blues musicians playing various styles of Blues, from acoustic Mississippi Delta blues, to R&B based Zydeco blues and swamp pop. The workshop will include a discussion on various blues stylings, and the distinctions between those diverse styles and forms. After the workshop there will be a Blues Jam, followed by each band playing a performance set, culminating with the headliner dance Blues band. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.
